Frequently asked questions
There is currently no universal standard for what “ceremonial grade” cacao means. Rather than rely on a label, we focus on process and tradition. We use minmially processed, unfermented lavado cacao. The result is pure 100% cacao that respects the traditional way cacao has been prepared for millennia.
Yes! For larger groups and for more personal ritual. Ceremony does not need to look one particular way. You can drink cacao in silence, in creativity, in prayer, in journaling, in song, or shared with loved ones. The invitation is presence and respect.
Typical preparation:
- 1 TBSP cacao per serving
- 8 ounces hot water or milk
- whisk, froth, or blend until smooth
If you prefer your cacao thicker, prepare it with 2 TBSP. Add sweetener if desired.
Keep in a cool, dry place out of the sun. No refrigerator or freezer needed. Make sure it is sealed to preserve freshness.
Start small. Half a serving is often enough, especially if you are sensitive. Many people enjoy cacao a few times per week, some daily. Pay attention to sleep and energy levels and adjust accordingly.
Most cacao is fermented. “Lavado” means washed: the fruit is rinsed from the bean and then the bean is sun dried. This method preserves potency and offers a more traditional, powerful, truly raw cacao flavor. Learn more in about our ingredients by clicking on "Discover" at the top.
Yes, but much less than coffee. Cacao has about 85 percent less caffeine than a cup of coffee. Its main stimulant is theobromine, which offers steadier, heart-centered energy and focus without the jitters or crash many people feel with coffee.
Yes, the cacao itself is vegan, gluten-free, and contains no added sugar. Teyolía is 100% cacao and herbs. No fillers or adders at all. Any sweetness added would be by you during preparation.
Cacao is a strong plant, especially in this "lavado" preparation. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking antidepressants, heart medications, or have cardiovascular conditions, consult your healthcare provider and consider smaller servings. Always honor your own limits.
Because cacao is a food product, returns are limited. If your package was damaged or something is wrong with your order, let us know and we will do our best to resolve it and ensure you’re satisfied.
